My first feeding tube was fitted on Thursday 12th November 2015. I was fitted with a Gastric-Jejunal tube, this tube went through my stomach & carried on into my Jejunum.
This combined tube is split into 3 inner tubes, this is great as it meant I only needed one hole & one tube! The 3 inner tubes that make up my tube include; The Balloon, The Gastric tube & The Jejunal tube
SINCE JANUARY 2017 I HAVE BEEN USING THE OLD STYLE TUBE! |
My New Tube
About 7-8 months after having my first GJ tube or "The Dangler" as it was affectionatly butnamed I got my new tube. This feeding tube is the same inernally as my first tube however it is a button. A feeding tube button means there is a small amount of tube on the outside & to use it you must use extension sets. My particular tube is called A GJet Low-Profile button made by AMT. I love this tube, not only is it keeping me alive and well but it now also looks good! Thanks to this tube I am able to wear tighter fitting tops or a dress without tubes getting in the way. Since having this tube I have felt more confident about my tubie body [I still have a long way to go in my mission for self love]
This tube is also much better in regards to what it actually does, you see it's not all about looks ;) I have to vent my stomach ideally this needs to happen 24/7 but sometimes there are times I don't want a bag of bile attachted to my body. The inner Gastric tube is bigger than my previous tube which means it is alot easier to empty my stomach. The tube itself is stronger which means it's less likely to kink & less likely to clogg/block. The balloon is also a lot stronger which means it won't burst as frequently.
The only downside about this tube is that you must remember to keep enough extension sets as without them you can't use the tube! My local hospital & feed company however don't seem to be able to stock my Jejunal extensions, this means I'm getting them 10 at a time at random points!
